Skidmore named a top college for great financial aid, social mobility, quality of life

September 25, 2023

Skidmore College continues to receive recognition as a top liberal arts college in the nation and for offering exceptional financial aid, value, social mobility, quality of life, and innovative experiences to students.

The College was recently recognized for its deep and long-standing commitment to accessibility by Princeton Review, which named Skidmore its No. 3 college for “Great Financial Aid.” More than half of Skidmore's students receive some form of financial aid, and the College meets 100% of demonstrated financial need for all admitted students. Skidmore also appeared prominently on the publication's lists for “Best Quality of Life (No. 14),” “Happiest Students (No. 11),” “Best College Radio Station (No. 6),” and “Best College Theater (No. 6).” A reflection of the College’s enduring dedication to sustainability, Skidmore was named among Princeton Review’s “Top 50 Green Colleges” and is named on its “Green Matters” list, which highlights schools where the community cares deeply about conservation.

Based on feedback from students, Niche featured Skidmore in its top 50 list of “Best Liberal Arts Colleges” and “Best Small Colleges” nationwide, as well as in its top 10 colleges in New York state. Skidmore’s award-winning Dining Services team also received a positive nod, with the College coming in at No. 5 for “Best College Food” in New York.

Skidmore was also recognized among the “Top Performers on Social Mobility” by U.S. News & World Report, an accolade that assesses how successfully schools graduate economically disadvantaged students and considers Pell graduation rates, borrower debt, and graduate earnings. The College also appeared on the publication’s list of top 20 “Most Innovative Schools,” a recognition of schools that are “making the most innovative improvements in terms of curriculum, faculty, students, campus life, technology or facilities.”

Skidmore has also been recognized as one of the 2024 “Best Colleges in America” by The Wall Street Journal and received favorable rankings from Money, Washington Monthly, and U.S. News & World Report, which placed it No. 38 in the National Liberal Arts Colleges category and, like the Princeton Review, listed Skidmore as a “Best Value School.”
